Planting trees in Gammelsdorf

The entire forest covers 10 hectares, while the damaged area is fortunately quite small, at 0.3 hectares. This leaves room for approximately 500-1,000 new trees. The plan is to plant larch to complement the existing stock of spruce, birch, pine, and fir trees.

The distances to the forest area are as follows:

  • Munich City: 65 km
  • Munich Airport: 32 km
  • Landshut: 18 km
  • Ingolstadt: 60 km
  • Regensburg: 70 km

Planting larch in Freising – strengthening ecological diversity in the forest

We are committed to increasing biodiversity, which is why we specifically plant larches. The larch (Larix decidua) is a robust, native conifer. The larch is the only native conifer that sheds its needles in the fall, just like a deciduous tree loses its leaves. This is called “seasonal needling” or “summer green.”

All other typical conifers, such as spruce, fir, or pine, retain their needles in the winter. This is called “evergreen.” The larch, on the other hand, turns its needles golden yellow and then sheds them. This is an unusual trait for a conifer.
